Can Black Paint Really Improving Intercooler Performance
Today many videos circulating on the internet that claim that you can improve the cooling efficiency of the intercooler by painting the black. Is this true?
That is true in theory emissivity measuring the radiation emitted by a surface or object and not all people understand the process.
In the theory of black body emissivity has emissivity = 1 on a scale of 0 to 1 that emit the largest amount of radiation. This is why people think painting the intercooler with black paint could help radiate more heat and cool the air in it is much faster.
Looks like a nice theory, but keep in mind that the intercooler is not made to dissipate heat through radiation, but by way of convection, which cools the air molecules are compressed on the inside of the flow inside the blades interoolcer with cold air flowing while the vehicle is running, through the grating outside to reject heat.
Coat the surface of the intercooler with black paint instead it will hinder the process pendnginan. Because cold air is needed to blow the lattice intercooler, blocked by layers of paint.
The black color also will be easier to absorb and store heat radiation from the sun either directly or indirectly, so it will make the incoming air in the intake warmer.
In other words: Do not paint your intercooler with black colour.
